Add Handwritten Notes

Modified on Wed, 15 Apr at 10:12 AM

Do you have stacks of notebooks, sticky notes, or whiteboards full of insights that only you can access? Many experts accumulate years of handwritten knowledge that never reaches their audience simply because it's trapped on paper.

With Answers From Me, you can scan or photograph your handwritten notes and add them directly to your Knowledge Base. Once uploaded, your Knowledge Agent can draw on those insights to answer questions from your audience — turning your notebooks into a searchable, shareable resource.

How It Works

Answers From Me uses AI to read and extract text from images and scanned documents — including handwritten notes. There's no manual transcription required. When you upload a photo or scan, the content is automatically processed and added to your Knowledge Base as a text-based content item that your agent can reference.

Capturing Your Notes

You have a few options for digitizing handwritten material:

  • Phone camera: The quickest option. Simply take a photo of your notes using your phone's camera app. Most modern phones capture enough detail for accurate text extraction.
  • Document scanner: If you have access to a scanner, it can produce high-quality PDFs that work well for dense or detailed notes.
  • Smartphone scanner app: Apps like Apple Notes, Microsoft Lens, or Adobe Scan can straighten pages, adjust lighting, and produce cleaner results.

Tips for Better Results

  • Good lighting: Avoid shadows across the page. Natural light or an overhead lamp works well.
  • Flat surface: Lay pages flat to minimize distortion from curved or wrinkled paper.
  • Legible handwriting: The AI does its best with all handwriting styles, but clearer writing will produce more accurate results.
  • One topic per image: If your notes cover multiple subjects, consider grouping them by subject and uploading each group separately for better organization in your Knowledge Base.

Adding Scanned Notes to Your Knowledge Base

Once you have your scanned images or PDFs ready:

  1. Go to the Content section of your Expert dashboard
  2. Click Add Content
  3. Select your image files (JPG, PNG, etc.) or scanned PDFs
  4. Upload the files — you can upload multiple files at once, up to 200 MB each

After uploading, Answers From Me will process each file and create content items in your Knowledge Base.

Reviewing Your Content

After your notes are processed, take a moment to review the extracted content:

  1. Find the newly created items in your Content list
  2. Open each item and check that the description accurately reflects your notes
  3. Edit as needed to correct any misread words or add context that may not be obvious from the handwriting alone
  4. Add a descriptive title to help organize your content and make it easier for your agent to find

This review step is especially important for handwritten material, where unusual abbreviations, diagrams, or personal shorthand may not translate perfectly.

What to Upload

Here are some ideas for the kinds of handwritten material that work well:

  • Meeting notes and action items
  • Brainstorming sessions and mind maps
  • Lecture or conference notes
  • Research observations and field notes
  • Client session notes (be mindful of privacy considerations)
  • Whiteboard photos from workshops or planning sessions

Supported File Types

You can upload any common image or document format:

  • Images: JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, HEIC
  • Documents: PDF (including scanned PDFs)

Files can be up to 200 MB each.
